Kindergarten Progressive Entry

September 2026 — Welcome to Merton’s Kindergarten!

Dear Kindergarten Parents/Guardians,

Welcome once again to Merton’s Kindergarten! This is your introduction to your child’s first days of school in early September of 2026. We provide a progressive entry that requires some planning on your part. The purpose of these days is to ease the transition to elementary school and to introduce your child to the classroom and school routines in a gentle way. The plan is as follows:

Day 1 Tuesday, September 1, 2026 9:00–11:00 a.m.
  • Between 8:50–9:00 a.m., parents and Kindergarten students will enter through the main front doors on Robinson Street and make their way to the gym, where they will be greeted by the Kindergarten team.
  • From there, students will follow the teachers to the Kindergarten classrooms.
  • Parents will then be dismissed and asked to return at 11:00 a.m. to pick up their children from the school yard on Merton Street.
  • At pick-up, parents must remain on the sidewalk outside of the gates.
  • A dismissal information form will be provided on Day 1. Please complete and return it as soon as possible.
No bus or daycare services are available on Day 1. Please send a snack with your child.
Day 2 Wednesday, September 2, 2026 9:00–11:00 a.m.
  • Parents will drop off their children at 9:00 a.m. at the school yard gate.
  • Children will enter the schoolyard, where the Kindergarten teachers will be waiting for them.
  • Parents must remain on the sidewalk outside of the gates.
  • Teachers will bring the students to their Kindergarten classrooms.
  • Parents will return at 11:00 a.m. to pick up their children from the school yard.
No bus or daycare services are available on Day 2. Please send a snack with your child.
Day 3 Thursday, September 3, 2026 First Full Day

Day 3 will be the first full day of school for our Kindergarten students.

  • Students will follow the regular school schedule.
  • Entry will begin at 7:50 a.m. through the school yard.
  • Students will be assigned to their classroom for the school year and will be greeted by their teacher.
  • School supplies should be brought to school on Day 3 only.
Please send snacks and a lunch with your child starting on Day 3.

There is no mandatory dress code for Kindergarten students.

Please make sure your child and her/his teacher BOTH know the end of day plan for your child EVERY DAY so they can follow them appropriately.

We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!

The Kindergarten Team
