Kindergarten Progressive Entry

Dear Kindergarten Parents/Guardians,

Welcome once again to Merton’s Kindergarten! This is your introduction to what will happen in August and early September, for your child’s first days of school. We provide a progressive entry that requires some planning on your part. The purpose of these days is to ease the transition to elementary school and to introduce your child to the classroom and school routines in a gentle way. The children will only be in school for shorter days, as you will see below, and will need to be brought to school and picked up – no bus or daycare service will be available on those days. The plan is as follows:

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2023

We will meet in the gymnasium. Entry through the FRONT entrance. Please register and proceed to the gymnasium.

  • 9:00 to 9:30 – Meet in the gymnasium, greetings, divide students into 2 groups.
  • 9:30 to 11:00 – Parents are free to go. Students stay in school for activities.
  • Students will spend 45 minutes in each classroom and meet both teachers.
  • Dismissal is from the JUNIOR entrance.
  • Students should bring a healthy snack.
  • You do not need to bring any supplies to school on this day.
  • There are no bus or daycare services on this day.
  • NOTES will be sent home with your child – please attend to them and return them to school, if necessary, the next day.

Please note that the class groups are only permanently assembled at the end of Thursday. Until that day the groups are completely flexible. Small additional changes may be made throughout the first full week of school, at our discretion, with the best interest of the students in mind.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 2023

  • 9:00 – Entry through the JUNIOR Entrance, parents please stay outside the gate.
  • 11:00 – Parents pick up their children at the JUNIOR Entrance.
  • Students will spend time in each classroom and spend time with both teachers.
  • Students should bring a healthy snack.
  • You do not need to bring any supplies to school on this day.
  • There are no bus or daycare services on this day.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2023

Please follow the same plan as on Wednesday except:

  • Please bring your child’s school supplies (labeled) at this time, unless you have ordered them from Home and School.
  • Students should bring a healthy snack.
  • There are no bus or daycare services on this day.

The first full day of school will be on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 from 7:57 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.  Arrival time is between 7:50 and 7:57, at the JUNIOR entrance. Please pack 2 nutritious snacks for your child and a full lunch. Your child will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m from the Junior entrance if you are picking him/her up. Bus service and daycare service start on this day

– please make sure your child and her/his  teacher BOTH know the end of day plan for your child so they can follow them appropriately.

We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!

The Kindergarten Team and Ms. Rosana
