Seven EMSB students recognized at GemStar Circle of Excellence Scholarship and Mentorship Program
The English Montreal School Board was proud to be part of the GemStar Circle of Excellence Scholarship and Mentorship Program celebration of another remarkable milestone recently, as more than 100 guests gathered to honor the achievements of the program’s fourth cohort of outstanding students.
EMSB prepares for 2026-27 academic year
Students of the English Montreal School Board’s (EMSB) primary and secondary institutions will return to class on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Kindergarten children must be five years of age on or before September 30, 2026 while Grade 1 (Cycle 1) students must be six years old on or before the same date.
EMSB “Gifted” students continue to shine
The gifted and enrichment learning team, as part of the English Montreal School Board Student Services Department, continues to shine on students with opportunities for advanced learners at the school and classroom level based on their personal strengths (interests, learning preferences and expression styles, and readiness levels).
EMSB mourns the loss of life in local shooting incident
The English Montreal School Board will fly the flags at central head office in NDG at half mast in the memory of the two innocent victims who lost their lives in a shooting in the Côte des Neiges District – a police officer and a bystander.

French Immersion

Bilingualism has many cognitive benefits that go beyond those of language acquisition such as heightened mental flexibility, creative thinking skills, enhanced metalinguistic awareness as well as greater communicative sensitivity.
